Hy-Vee grocery stores' history started in 1930 in Beaconsfield 1930. It was all accomplished by the two founders Charles L. Hyde and David M. Vredenburg, who started it all from a small grocery store with a vision of "good merchandise, appreciative service, and low prices".

After all, the two partners cooperated with 14 other entrepreneurs and incorporated 15 Iowa and Missouri stores. After transforming into a whole company, Hy-Vee operated apart from the stores, an office, warehouse, mill, and meat plant, all of which are located in Lamoni, Iowa. In addition, a bakery was opened for the completion of the service variety.
