Target’s root traced back to 1902, which at that time its name was ‘Goodfellow Dry Goods’. The first store, Target, has opened in 1962, headquartered in Minnesota and now, it has more than 1,844 stores in the US. Target mostly specializes in everything that one family can need. It sells groceries, clothing, households products, electronics, cosmetics at cheap prices. Customers have access to online shopping of Target’s product on target.com website since 1999.
As our lives become more mobile and busy, the mobile app of Target has been introduced to make shopping easier. The payment method is also very simple and quick; the customers can pay with their contactless cards, or mobile wallets, such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay.
Target offers its own REDcard as debit or credit which customers can take advantages of special offers as a cardholder and also make payment easily.
The stores are almost or more than 12,000 metres square and have a simple architecture. Stores based on their locations sell the current trend of that location so to fulfil the customers’ every need locally. The stores that are named as Super Target are larger and have other services inside the stores, such as Starbucks Coffee counters, optical, photo and pharmacy. Pharmacy division of the store, sold to CVS Health in 2015 and now CVS operates pharmacy stores in Target.
There are other types of Target stores, named CityTarget, TargetExpress, Target Greatland which are different in size, and according to what they sell as a product variety.
Target has other subsidiaries operating in financial, and sourcing services. It has its own branded products. It occasionally carries out partnerships with fashion brands and sponsors popular awards shows such as Oscars, Golden Globes.
